South Coast Wildlands has implemented a
Geographic Information System (GIS) to
serve the spatial modeling and mapping
needs for the South Coast Missing Linkages
Project and other conservation initiatives.
S E R V I C E: We extend our GIS services
to the non-profit and conservation
communities. Currently, we work very
closely with several organizations,
universities, and agencies throughout the
South Coast Ecoregion and beyond.
Contact us to learn more about how we
can help you achieve your spatial analysis
and mapping goals for your current project.
C A P A C I T Y: Our GIS consists of some of the latest
and most robust geo-spatial technologies for spatial analysis,
mapping, geoprocessing, 3D visualization, mobile/field GIS,
remote sensing, and custom desktop and web-based
GIS solutions. Our GIS supports; ArcInfo Desktop, ArcINFO
Workstation, ArcGIS Spatial Analyst, ArcGIS 3D Analyst,
ArcPad, IDRISI32, ArcObjects and MapObjects.
Below is a brief presentation of our scope of specialization and expertise. |

Spatial Modeling
We specialize in using GIS to help tell the conservation
story of a landscape through spatial analysis and
modeling. We can create static/descriptive models,
predictive models, and time-series models for your
project. For experienced GIS users, we can help
automate modeling efforts by creating custom
geoprocessing tools or ArcGIS extensions for your
organization (see Custom GIS Software below).
Mapping (Cartography)
Need a map for your current project? Our GIS lab
hosts cutting-edge cartographic and graphic design
technologies for creating professional maps with the
look and feel that you desire for your map series. We
can delivery your maps to you as large format plots,
high-resolution images (for presentations, websites,
and other media), or as interactive desktop or web-
based map applications.
3D Visualization
Take a look at your data or model output in 3D! We
can create fly-throughs of your planning areas and
drape the scene with your own data. Products can
include 3D images, 3D animations, or custom 3D
desktop applications/viewers.
Geodatabase Design/Implementation
We are highly skilled in designing and implementing
geodatabases. We can help you design your database
using UML or other diagramming/design methodologies.
Let us help you migrate your legacy data to a geodatabase
solution - or migrate your personal geodatabases to a
centralized multi-user geodatabase. We can also help you
plan for the hardware and software needed to build your
centralized geodatabase solution. We also specialze in
creating custom geodatabase tools including tools that
automate the creation of your geodatabase schema
and tools that automate data migration.
Mobile/Field GIS
One of the advantages of a Mobile GIS solution is the
time saved in the post-processing of your field data.
Let us help you put together a Mobile GIS solution as
well as help train your staff. We can also help streamline
your field work efforts by creating custom menus for your
data collection team.
Remote Sensing
Remote sensing techniques involve the interpretation
and analysis of data sources such as satellite and aerial
imagery. Various algorithms have been developed that
help delineate land use patterns, area of high relative
biomass, areas of infestations in forests (e.g. bark beetle),
fire severity, and delineating land use/cover by spectral
classes. Our GIS warehouse hosts a wealth of LANDSAT
satellite imagery as well as recent and past aerial imagery
for Southern California and beyond.
Custom GIS Software
We can create custom GIS tools to either add new
functionality to your GIS or to help automate your
current workflows/algorithms. We specialize in creating
custom software that 'plugs-in' the ArcGIS framework
using ArcObjects. Examples include custom extensions
and custom geoprocessing tools. We can also create
custom stand-alone desktop application using ArcGIS
Engine or web-based GIS solutions using ArcGIS Server.
